On a Mac, Finder handles the process. On Windows, you\u2019ll need the Apple Devices app installed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It\u2019s also worth thinking about backups. Recovery Mode wipes everything off the phone\u2014there\u2019s no way around that. If you\u2019ve been backing up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icloud.com\/\">iCloud<\/a> or to a computer, you\u2019ll be able to restore your data later. If not, the phone will still work again, but you\u2019ll be starting fresh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you don\u2019t have access to a computer at all, your best bet is visiting an Apple Store or an authorised service provider. They can guide you through the same process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Enter_Recovery_Mode_on_iPhone\"><\/span><strong>How to Enter Recovery Mode on iPhone<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you\u2019ll need to turn the iPhone off. Now, press and hold the <strong>Side button<\/strong> and <strong>Volume Down button<\/strong> together. When the power slider appears, slide it and wait for the phone to shut down completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the screen is off, do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plug the USB cable into your computer first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect the other end to your iPhone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right away, press and hold the <strong>Side button<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep holding it until you see the <strong>Recovery Mode screen<\/strong>, showing a cable pointing toward a computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the buttons don\u2019t respond at all, the device may need professional repair.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t let go too early\u2014Recovery Mode only appears if you keep holding the button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Restore_iPhone_Using_a_Windows_PC\"><\/span><strong>Restore iPhone Using a Windows PC<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re on Windows, the restore process runs through the Apple Devices app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open the app and select your iPhone when it appears. If you\u2019re asked to trust the device, approve it. From there, head to the <strong>General<\/strong> section and choose <strong>Restore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, Windows may need to download the software required to reset the phone. Click it, approve any trust prompts that show up, and then select <strong>Restore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If macOS needs to download system software, be patient. If the download takes too long and your iPhone exits Recovery Mode, don\u2019t panic\u2014just reconnect it and repeat the steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Finish_Setting_Up_Your_iPhone\"><\/span><strong>Finish Setting Up Your iPhone<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the restore is complete, the phone restarts on its own and shows the familiar <strong>Hello<\/strong> screen. That\u2019s your cue that the hard part is over. You can unplug the cable and move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, setup feels like day one again. You\u2019ll sign in with your Apple ID, choose your preferences, and set up Face ID or Touch ID. If you have a backup, you\u2019ll be asked whether you want to bring your data back from iCloud or from your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a backup, you can still continue and use the phone normally. You can reinstall apps and add things back over time.
